Callaway All The Way
Ely Callaway was a keen golfer. He used to play a lot of golf and they used wooden sticks at the time for hitting the ball. Callaway used to use wooden golf clubs manufactured by a company called the Hickory Sticks. At the time, many and most of the companies were facing financial trouble. They needed somebody to bail them out for the time so that they could at least stay afloat. Hickory Sticks approached Ely Callaway for the same and since Ely was also on the lookout for an investment after having sold his wine vineyards for a good profit, he decided to put his money in the company.
At the time, he was just trying to mix business with a little pleasure. In 1982, Callaway bought 50% of the shares of Hickory Sticks and changed its name to Callaway Hickory Sticks. By 1988, the Hickory sticks part of the name was completely dropped.
When Callaway took over, he was faced with a situation. The golf club manufacturing technology was on the brink of a technical explosion and so he decided to put in more money and effort and he roped in a billiard cue designer, Richard Hemstetter to help with the designs and design materials for the golf clubs. Richard’s ideas and suggestions were excellent and well suited to everybody and he was soon made the chief club designer for Callaway Golf.
Computerized club manufacturing was first introduced under the guidance of Helmstetter at Callaway golf. The first major success came with the undisputable Big Bertha drivers. The monster clubs had a huge club head of 190cc and they soon took over the whole golf scene. Later versions of the Big Bertha came with even bigger heads of 290cc and even above. Big Bertha truly revolutionized golf.
In 1996, Roger Cleveland joined Callaway as their chief designer and the company started to develop and manufacture the revolutionary Callaway Fusion irons.
The company made a lot of heart and soul into the growth and evolution of golf from a simple game of putting the ball into the hole using wooden sticks to the technologically highly advanced field of science. The Callaway fusion irons have titanium and carbon composites in the just right homogeneous mixture to get that perfect swing and accuracy.
In 2002, Callaway introduced the unique forged wedges. this special golf club, which had U-shaped grooves in the club face were constructed with carbon steel and were designed to take off that extra weight off the clubs and further enhance its ability to give accurate and easy shots down the fairway.
Callaway now offers a complete range of golf products. It offers a complete line of technologically advanced golf woods, irons, wedges and putters. From being a Big Bertha company to offering all kinds of clubs, accessories, golf balls and merchandise, Callaway Golf has certainly come a very long way. Their success is attributed to immense hard work, dedication and the foresight to vision golf as a worldwide sport.
Callaway golf sells its products under the brands named Callaway Golf, Ben Hogan and Top-Flight. Callaway golf’s main aim and goal is to make every golfer a better golfer.
